Collections of Walking Liberty and Franklin half-dollars in a Dansco 7160 album
Collector Lots-Half-Dollars
Crazy Collection! If you have an affinity for Walking Liberty and Franklin half-dollars than this large and repetitive set is meant for you. All of the one- hundred and twenty examples are housed in the same Dansco album and includes a complete collection of each series with an additional “short set” run of Walking Liberty halves. The examples from 1916 through 1940 are largely heavily circulated with obvious signs of cleaning as well. Conversely, both short set runs of the Walking Liberty halves are littered with Almost Uncirculated through Choice Uncirculated examples. A similar grading pattern is noticed with the Franklin halves with a few proof issues sprinkled in for added appeal. This is a truly must see lot for anyone considering bidding on it (ck).

Lot #550 - 1909-S NGC MS-66

Gold $20-Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
13 graded MS-66, zero higher at NGC. Not so many years ago, 1909-S was considered rare in high grade until a hoard of better examples entered the market and helped increase the supply of gem examples. That said, this spectacular coin, showing exceptional copper-gold color, exceeds the gem grade by a full point at NGC, and places it smack dab into the discussion of finest-known pieces at that grading company (PCGS claims two higher graded examples).

Close inspection reveals superbly frosted surfaces and a lack of major marks; the cataloger suggests the one lone depression down the left edge of Liberty's gown may be the most noticeable. On the reverse, what appears at first to be a micro pinscratch could actually be an interesting strikethrough, which could then be of significant interest as a provenance marker for a coin this scarce. An exquisite, much better date within the series that would be almost impossible to beat in terms of quality.
