  • Lot #337 - 1861 New Reverse - Type II PCGS MS-62
  • Hammer: $775
  • Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
  • An early Civil War emission, this lustrous and superbly detailed quarter eagle features repunching south of "18" in the date, a known obverse die. Feeble luster suggests improper storage and a small dig right of the eagle must be noted.

  • Lot #464 - 1891-CC NGC MS-62
  • Hammer: $3,300
  • Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
  • Scott Laiter Collection. Although thousands of 1891-CC tens exist today in certified mint-state grade (out of a mintage of over 100-thousand pieces), the date remains very popular with collectors and has shown little sign of price softness in current markets. Here is a rock-solid MS-62 example that triumphs with booming luster and a sharp, near-complete strike. Quality gets marred only by a fair number of the minute abrasions typical of the grade, but not a'one requires special mention.
