Cochrane Gambit Consignment. Ex-NGC/CAC AU-58 per the consignor. A desirable borderline-uncirculated half-dollar type coin, silvery-tan coloration dominates most of the surface, encircled completely on both sides by pleasing denim-blue album toning. Sharply struck for the most part, minimal wear rubs down the finest details only to the slightest possible extent, and a few random tiny marks on the cheek speak to brief handling.

54 graded MS-66, 10 higher at NGC. As the 24th state admitted to the Union, the mint denoted that status on an apparent minority with "2x4" stamped into the obverse left field. And as a result of lower mintage combined with generally mediocre quality for the type, a very-gem example like this is a welcome option over the usual lackluster examples on the market. This coin features superb, original platinum-tan coloration throughout, surrounded by a hint of deeper russet-gold. Fewer than a handful of trivial nicks on the cheek and some brief, faint hairline abrasions across the shoulder appear to be the extant of contact.
