  • Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
  • FS-301. Perhaps because of the inherent cost of collecting gold coins, varieties are sorely underappreciated, but 1899/899 is one of the best available to collectors and this appears to be an earlier die-state example. The extra loop left of the "8" is plainly visible with a loupe -- some examples of the same repunched date really only show the extra outlines left of the 9s.

  • Robert Michaels Collection. Cohen-13, one of the common die-marriages for 1804. This is a glossy ebony-brown example that features ample flowline texture within the outer reaches of both obverse fields. Only a limited number of minute handling marks land on the surface, mostly on the obverse.
