  • Lot #882 - 1821 XF/scratched
  • Hammer: $750
  • Large Cents-Liberty Head
  • Newcomb-2, and unusual for the date in that a very good quality planchet managed to evade the environmental effects commonly seen for 1821. What was not avoided was some mishandling during commerce that imparted a pinscratch in front of the nose and a handful more vague hairline-thin abrasions on the portrait. Fortunately, surprisingly decent eye-appeal carries the day and suggests to the cataloger an EAC estimate of F15.

  • Lot #794 - 1940-S MS-67 FB, and a 1945-S MS-67, both NGC
  • Hammer: $400
  • Dimes-Mercury
  • Clem Stevens Collection. Superb gem examples also see good strikes, although only 1940-S has an "FB" designation. This coin features remarkable ruby-violet and coral-gold toning that must be seen to be believed. Accompanying is 1945-S for which either side receives a broad splash of Pacific-blue color joining crimson-gold lowlights. Two coin lot.
