  • Sandra Wilson Algiers Estate. Sandra Wilson Algiers Collection. 2 graded MS-67 "star", 4 higher at NGC. While a common date in general, 1946 with a "star" is truly a rare find at NGC (and today's sale contains nearly half of NGC's entire population). Here is an outrageous example that not only puts forth mind-boggling eye-appeal but also possesses incredible technical attributes right down to a virtually complete absence of contact marks. Shockingly bright emerald-green, ruby-magenta, deep violet and sunrise-gold hues douse the entire obverse, with maximum emphasis on emerald-jade vibrancy, while similar Crayola hues enshroud the reverse with priority given yolk-gold color.

  • Bass-Dannreuther-1 (R.5), early dies with no cracks. Perhaps as a result of the use of fresh dies, both sides received delightful sharpness as-struck, and the kind of beckoning luster that is requisite for a choice grade. A mere whisper on each of the eagle's talons could be the only possible indications of a strike that barely missed 100% accuracy. The obverse shows trivial adjustment marks that somehow evade the field and land only on the extreme right edge -- a bona fide perk for the collector who demands a minimum of possible distractions. One tiny copper spot past the fifth star hardly requires mention, but what must be noticed is the decidedly luxuriant eye-appeal that almost seems impossible of 200+ year-old gold coinage.
