Lot #502 - 1857-S Spiked Shield S.S. Central America with gold dust PCGS MS-65+
Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
Ex-S.S. Central America, "spiked shield" reverse. 9 graded MS-65+, 17 higher at PCGS. The enormous PCGS slab also contains a pinch of "California gold dust" although the encapsulated particles are irritatingly difficult to appreciate through the curiously frosted viewing panel. What is easy to appreciate is the exceptional quality of the 1857-S double-eagle, which appears fully MS-66 to the cataloger's eye. Outrageous, very-bright pale luster predominates over the impressively detailed motifs that suffer merely trivial little bagmarks. Upgrade may be denied by PCGS due to faint, shiny sliding abrasions left and below the chin but otherwise, the surface hardly looks like something which spent more than a century within the salty waters of the Atlantic.

Lot #785 - 1907 PCGS PR-67 CAC, Ex-Pittman

Ex-Pittman (not listed on slab insert). 15 graded PR-67, 4 higher at PCGS Sadly, this coin has somehow lost its famous pedigree along its journey into the PCGS slab, as somebody foolishly (perhaps) removed it from the original NGC holder (SN: 638831-001) where it had the same grade (and also a green CAC sticker). Oh the lengths some will travel to eke a few extra dollars out of a plastic holder... but we digress. The Pittman dime is nothing short of incredible as it displays lovely, tasteful obverse peripheral toning and enormously satisfying indigo-violet hue across the entire reverse. As befits the grade, the surface shows simply zero distractions, except perhaps a singular carbon speckle at the front of Liberty's neck, which is helpful in identifying it for future generations. A Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award for obvious reasons, and we can only hope that the future owner will take the steps necessary to restore the esteemed pedigree to whatever slab the coin ends up in.

Probably purchased in China during the 1960s, may we offer this absolutely stunning pendant fashioned from 18K yellow gold, diamonds and the most translucent green Jade. The three diamonds measure 2.5mm each for an approximate total weight of .18 cttw, SI clarity, I color. While most people know that the green color of a candy life saver is the best color of jade to own, the second most prized feature of a piece of jade is the translucency. This piece, although it looks like a moss green jade, if you get it near the light and under a loupe, it's more of an emerald green. And when I say this piece is translucent, I am NOT kidding. It is just so clear and so nicely carved that you know the artisan took great pride in creating the female deity you see here. While the piece is fashioned as a pendant, it also stands on its own and can be used as a small shrine. As to the deity this piece represents, I know not. It is what it is - just GORGEOUS!
