As with the contemporary 20-dollar pieces the predominant feature is an oversimplified depiction of Pike's Peak, replaced later by the imitative Liberty head obverse. This is an impressive coin despite very fair circulation due to lovely, original crimson-orange toning that lurks within protected areas, most prominently around the reverse periphery. While the foliage seen at the foot of the mountain shows fairly intricate details, the broader ledges seen on the mountain itself have lost the finest details to modest rub. Mild wear on the eagle also flattens out the upper edge of each wing and the talons.
