Block 8, head of 1837, Breen-6144. Crisp and partially lustrous, and endowed with lovely, vintage golden hue. Some light circulation marks fling generally into the upper left quadrant of the obverse while the reverse shows scarcely an abrasions at all.

Bowers lists this misplaced date but it is seldom referenced elsewhere, which is too bad given how prominent the digits are within the denticles. They are especially visible on such a nice, high-grade example of this Civil War survivor. Neither side would truly pass as UNC under close inspection, but the amount of wear is paper-thin and the coin overall exhibits attractive golden color with pinkish lowlights.
