Lot #399 - 1842-D Small Date NGC AU details/cleaned
Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
More available than the "large date" logotype but still hardly common given the mintage of under 60-thousand pieces. The pale, lackluster surface displays a thin coating of haze that helps subdue any potential remaining luster. Strike quality seems to be about as nice as is ever seen for 1842-D.

Dimes-Capped Bust
JR-1, the only "small date" die-marriage characterized by weakness of strike at the obverse upper right and reverse lower right. The latter side displays pleasing and fairly extensive flowline texture while the obverse was lightly cleaned at some point, now showing finely recovered greyish hue. An overall pleasing example of an uncommon date within the series.

Inspired by the clover leaf, these icons of luck are adorned with a border of golden beads.” This necklace has mother of pearl with the beaded border and comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity from White Plains-Neiman Marcus. The reference number for this item is VCARA45900 and the individual serial number is JA327404.
