KM#18, Rioja mint, medallic alignment. In the cataloger's experience, the 1825 Ra-CA is considerably scarcer than 1826 examples, which can be found on the market with persistent searching. This is an absolutely outstanding example -- a gorgeous "sunface" 2-soles bathed in drop-dead gorgeous, original powdery ash-grey with faint honey undertones. As always, the strike was imperfectly centered upon a very good flan, causing either side to favor north, yet those dentils that made it onto the flan are tack-sharp. While not a typical selection for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award, it isn't often that a humble coin off of the Rioja mint is so well preserved despite much circulation, so the award seems most apropos.

This run includes a 1954, 1 1955, a 1956, and a 1957 set with each offering nice and intact original cardboard sleeves. The outer envelopes for the 1956 and 1957 sets are in excellent condition while the other two have seen better days (ck).
