  • Lot #483 - 1889-CC NGC AU-55
  • Hammer: $6,000
  • Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
  • Mintage: 30,945. Although discovery of a small hoard in the 1990s elevated the population of mint-state examples, demand for 1889-CC remains very strong today due in part to the low mintage -- but also because of the Carson City mintmark effect, of course. Here is a stellar AU-55 example that virtually satisfies any need for mint-state quality as both sides absolutely gleam with essentially full cartwheel luster. Merely trivial hairlines separate the reverse from MS-60 while the obverse shows trivial rub on several curls trailing downward from the hair bun.

  • Circa 1960/1970 and unsigned, this sterling silver (tested) squash blossom necklace features turquoise cabs that look like they might be from the Royston mine. The necklace has a seven stone Naja pendant and 10 blossoms with a hook/eye closure. Possibly Navajo origin. Length 23”, 5.01 troy ounces.
