101st Airborne Collection. A group of Standing Liberty quarters was recently extracted from the consignor's Dansco collection, as all the other pieces are circulated. Included are: 1917-D type-2 (MS-62 and extremely original toning that looks much like mint-set patina), 1919 (UNC/FH but showing hazy surfaces), 1925 (Ch BU), 1926-D (UNC but not well struck and showing album color), and 1928 (Ch BU/FH and with attractive turquoise iridescence clinging to the devices. K.R. Consignment. HB-50, EP-6, R.6. JOSEPH L BATES / FANCY GOODS / 129 WASHINGTON St / BOSTON. Cataloger's grade: [very-fine] at the bare minimum. Possibly choice due to lovely, even powdery brass patina, the eye-appeal is improved a little by the stamp being better centered than some; U.S. POSTAGE is mostly legible beneath the upper rim of the encasing. All Joseph Bates encased stamps are rare, the 1-cent pieces being the only reasonably collectable denomination. Quality of the original mica is quite outstanding for the type, showing a faint hairline scratch but minimum visual impediments otherwise.
