  • Gold $20-Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
  • M. J. Shole Collection. A single submission to PCGS decades ago yielded choice 1924 double-eagles now offered as a single lot. In serial-number order are: first example blanketed in powdery greyish-golden hue and a very good strike; second example glowing with pristine vibrancy and an adequate array of minor bagmarks; and a third example also bathed in slightly hazy powder sheen. Three coin lot.

  • Lot #342 - 1860-S NGC MS-61
  • Hammer: $2,300
  • Gold Dollars-Indian Princess Head, Large Head
  • Mintage: 13,000. 23 graded MS-61, 17 higher at NGC. Lurking in an area of low survival rates in mint-state, the 1860-S is not quite as scarce as preceding years and often comes semi-prooflike, although this specific select representation shows only minimal flash. Roll friction scatters into the fields and takes on slightly deeper orange hue while coppery tones persist in better protected areas.
