  • Lot #395 - 1834 Classic, Plain 4 PCGS AU-55
  • Hammer: $1,500
  • Gold $5-Classic Head Half Eagle
  • McCloskey 4-C (R.4), block 8, plain 4, second head. 1834 marked the year when the mint changed design for the half-eagle, as the intrinsic value of each coin made it profitable (over face value) to melt them down for bullion. 4-C can most quickly be attributed by noticing a die crack that ejects from the top of Liberty's modified portrait. Noticeable flowline texture nearly touching the rims speaks also to later dies.

  • Lot #319 - 1905 $1 Lewis & Clark PCGS MS-64
  • Hammer: $1,400
  • Gold Commemoratives-Gold Commemoratives
  • A planchet flaw in front of Clark's lip adds a touch of interest to this yellow example. The strike is not quite as full as is often seen, perhaps due to well-aged dies that are starting to show a bit of orange peel effect.
