  • Lot #462 - 1897-O PCGS MS-61
  • Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
  • Mintage: 42,500. Heavier abrasions thump the reverse while overall, both sides show a number of the bagmarks expected of the date. 1897-O is not actually rare despite the lower mintage, but certified mint-state examples prove difficult to find at PCGS. A glittering example with occasional greyish crumbles that suggest a non-cleaned surface.

  • Lot #329 - 1849-O AU-55, and an 1852-O AU-58, both PCGS
  • Hammer: $1,200
  • Gold Dollars-Liberty Head
  • A case can certainly be made for selecting a pair of New Orleans gold dollars like these that come close to mint-state without requiring one to follow the lottery. Included are: 1849-O (sunny bright obverse mated to a reverse with a splash of patina) and 1852-O (smoothly attractive and showing very faint wear to create a pleasing, choice presentation). Two coin lot
