Gold $5-Liberty Head Half Eagle
More available than the "large date" logotype but still hardly common given the mintage of under 60-thousand pieces. The pale, lackluster surface displays a thin coating of haze that helps subdue any potential remaining luster. Strike quality seems to be about as nice as is ever seen for 1842-D.

Minimal peach-grey toning adorns the surface and may be attenuating luster slightly, but in no way does the coin suffer negative eye-appeal. A couple or so stray reedmarks can be found lower in either obverse field while the reverse offers modestly better preservation by comparison.

There is a one part of the bezel that is slightly bent but it doesn’t make this one any less pretty! Dimensions 2.5” x 1.75”, 18.3 dwt.
