  • Lot #230 - Collection of Barber and Mercury dimes in a Dansco album
  • Collector Lots-Dimes
  • Cris Lindy-Ping Collection. Twice as nice. While a complete run of Barber dimes is a fairly seldom seen phenomenon, seeing that in tandem with a completed run of Mercury dimes is a far greater achievement! Here lies both a complete collection of Barber and Mercury dimes and they are all under one roof inside of a Dansco album. There are certainly too many examples to mention them all her but the following standouts are present: an 1892-S (XF+), an 1893 (AU), an 1893-O (VF, cleaned), an 1893-S (XF+), an 1894 (XF), an 1894-O (VF), an 1895 (AU, cleaned), an 1895-O (GD+), an 1895-S (XF, cleaned), an 1896-O (VF), an 1896-S (VF), an 1897-O (VF, rim bruise), an 1897-S (VF), a 1901-S (F+), a 1902-S (VF, cleaned), a 1903-S (VF), a 1904-S (VF), a 1905-O (VF+), a 1906 (AU), a 1908 (BU), a 1909-D (XF, cleaned), a 1913-S (F), a 1916 (AU++), a 1916-D PCGS GD-04, a 1917 (AU++), a 1917-D (AU), a 1921 (F), a 1921-D (VF, cleaned), and a 1942/1 (VF, light clean). Nearly every example from 1934 through 1945 is in Choice Uncirculated condition and wraps up this set very nicely (ck).

  • Lot #785 - 1907 PCGS PR-67 CAC, Ex-Pittman
  • Hammer: $2,150
  • Dimes-Barber
  • Ex-Pittman (not listed on slab insert). 15 graded PR-67, 4 higher at PCGS Sadly, this coin has somehow lost its famous pedigree along its journey into the PCGS slab, as somebody foolishly (perhaps) removed it from the original NGC holder (SN: 638831-001) where it had the same grade (and also a green CAC sticker). Oh the lengths some will travel to eke a few extra dollars out of a plastic holder... but we digress. The Pittman dime is nothing short of incredible as it displays lovely, tasteful obverse peripheral toning and enormously satisfying indigo-violet hue across the entire reverse. As befits the grade, the surface shows simply zero distractions, except perhaps a singular carbon speckle at the front of Liberty's neck, which is helpful in identifying it for future generations. A Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award for obvious reasons, and we can only hope that the future owner will take the steps necessary to restore the esteemed pedigree to whatever slab the coin ends up in.
