Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. Well preserved surfaces are delicately swathed in steamy patina, which itself yields to rather exceptional toning on both sides, but especially the obverse. Here, fiery crimson-gold and chartreuse colors encircle a bright silver-blue oval over the Indian's portrait, while on the reverse, Arctic-blue and magenta-peach blend together. Remnants of a fingerprint beneath the bison's head may be limiting the technical grade, but the aesthetics would be difficult to beat at the gem grade level.
