  • Lot #319 - 1884 NGC MS-67+
  • Gold Dollars-Indian Princess Head, Large Head
  • Mintage: 7500. 2 graded MS-67+. 3 higher at NGC. Low mintages don't typically grant large quantities of high-grade survivors, but the low mintage run of gold dollars seem to have been saved in unusually high quantities. Here is a borderline outrageous coin that could challenge the appeal of many well-preserved proof examples as both sides display exquisite sharpness and obvious cameo contrast. Apparently a bit of a later striking, orange peel effect has begun to develop within the hair, while continued thorough examination finds two microscopic abrasions right of "1" in the denomination.

  • Lot #18 - China - 1927 $1 "Military Issue" L&M-58 (incorrect on label) E NENTO CIIINA Spelling Error, DDR - PCGS AU details/cleaned
  • Hammer: $775
  • World Coins-China
  • L&M-58, KM#318a.1, error variety much akin to an "Office Boy" reverse such that MENENTO and CIIINA are misspelled. The PCGS insert incorrectly states "LM-51E" which actually appears to be a non-existent variety, perhaps a perversion of "LM-58"? If so, that would be perfectly in character for this famous and hotly pursued variety which has very few known examples. A "cleaned" disclaimer might scare away nobody who understands the popular nature of the coin, but not mentioned is a tiny dig in the obverse left field that has been filled in. A curious example on multiple levels yet one which will see persistent bids for sure.
