Gold $5-Indian Head Half Eagle
45 graded MS-65, 5 higher at NGC. Nearly in the discussion for finest-known status, the quality seen here maximizes the appeal of devastating metallic mint luster and fabulous, bright golden color. A small nick in the reverse upper right field denies even further upgrade while the obverse displays merely a whiff of roll friction on the cheekbone. An example that will prove near impossible to improve upon.

NGC's "environmental damage" seems a little harsh for the example that shows barely more magenta-grey residue than usual, as this is actually a marvelously original example of the type. For the second, perhaps the impairment deserves mention as greenish and grey encrustation does affect the reverse. Two coin lot.
