More available than the "large date" logotype but still hardly common given the mintage of under 60-thousand pieces. The pale, lackluster surface displays a thin coating of haze that helps subdue any potential remaining luster. Strike quality seems to be about as nice as is ever seen for 1842-D.

A planchet flaw in front of Clark's lip adds a touch of interest to this yellow example. The strike is not quite as full as is often seen, perhaps due to well-aged dies that are starting to show a bit of orange peel effect.
