  • Lot #220 - China - 1914 1 yuan Pick# 33r PMG VF-25
  • Misc-World Currency
  • Devoid of signature nor city-of-issue, this remainder still managed to circulate (or get handled) to the extent of 35 points of wear. Nevertheless, the paper appears through-the-holder likely to be crisp and certainly problem-free, the edges still sharp as can be. An original example of this rare type off the Bank of China.

  • Lot #457 - 1929 PCGS MS-64+ CAC
  • Hammer: $52,750
  • Gold $5-Indian Head Half Eagle
  • 17 graded MS-64+, 14 (all MS-65) higher at PCGS. The final entry into the Indian half-eagle also turns out to be one of the most difficult to obtain at the gem grade level. In some respects, 1929 could be considered the "easiest key" or the "most difficult semi-key" depending on how one delineates rarity. Probably only six other dates prove more elusive to collectors at this level.

Strong luster checks off the first item on the list of accolades, followed immediately by what appears to be unexpectedly and pleasantly original color, including medium golden iridescence joined by much grapefruit-orange accenting. A very good but not quite excellent strike is mostly responsible for all that nice energy, but the grade gets held back slightly by two tiny nicks on the brow and another smaller nick on the lip.
