Gold $5-Classic Head Half Eagle
McCloskey 4-C (R.4), block 8, plain 4, second head. 1834 marked the year when the mint changed design for the half-eagle, as the intrinsic value of each coin made it profitable (over face value) to melt them down for bullion. 4-C can most quickly be attributed by noticing a die crack that ejects from the top of Liberty's modified portrait. Noticeable flowline texture nearly touching the rims speaks also to later dies.

Robert Michaels Collection. KM#267, Dav-5518, Free City of Magdeburg, Ferdinand III. A circulating commemorative issue which celebrates the reconstruction of the city. An edge chip out of the bottom of the facing side appears to be as-struck, as are the accurately depicted legends on both sides. Pewter-grey overall with olive-gold accents.
