Somewhat better struck than usual, the central areas retain a decent amount sharpness while the cataloger calls attention to several light, wispy hairlines in the obverse left field. Considerable lilac-tan and greyish patina dominates the surface.

74 graded MS-65 DMPL, 27 higher at PCGS. Even earlier strikes than what is seen here for 1898 have earned "UDM" at ANACS in years past but there is no question about the raving eye-appeal of this utterly prooflike example. The contrast may not be as strong as some but the portraits float over ice-water mirrors on either side. The reverse seems a trifle better detailed than the obverse, both sides being nicely struck overall.
