Gold $5-Capped Bust to Left Half Eagle
Bass-Dannreuther-1, R.3. Undoubtedly dedicated to a necklace early in life, this 1809/8 capped bust half-eagle suffered the indignity of a hole piercing the field at 12:00. A fairly competent effort was made to fill it in, with better results shown on the reverse.

VAM-8, far date. A die chip within the lower loop of "9" readily identifies this older VAM. A very well struck example, the reverse looks gem-plus all by itself while some faint roll abrading in the obverse left field may have prevented PCGS from going all the way to sixty-five. Essentially white with subtle, yellowish rim toning.
