Lot #462 - 1897-O PCGS MS-61
Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
Mintage: 42,500. Heavier abrasions thump the reverse while overall, both sides show a number of the bagmarks expected of the date. 1897-O is not actually rare despite the lower mintage, but certified mint-state examples prove difficult to find at PCGS. A glittering example with occasional greyish crumbles that suggest a non-cleaned surface.

Ex-Casino Vault Hoard. A tremendous strike carefully delineates every single thread of hair over Liberty's ear and renders almost perfect definition at the eagle's talons. The coin exhibits obvious prooflike character for the obverse, mated to a reverse that also discloses some nicer contrast. Endowed with steam-grey patina and outstanding appeal.
