  • Lot #462 - 1897-O PCGS MS-61
  • Gold $10-Liberty Head Eagle
  • Mintage: 42,500. Heavier abrasions thump the reverse while overall, both sides show a number of the bagmarks expected of the date. 1897-O is not actually rare despite the lower mintage, but certified mint-state examples prove difficult to find at PCGS. A glittering example with occasional greyish crumbles that suggest a non-cleaned surface.

  • Lot #3 - Roman Empire - Brutus (44-42 BC) stater - NGC Choice Uncirculated
  • Hammer: $2,100
  • Ancient Coins-Roman Empire
  • Pacific Coast Highway Collection. OBV: Roman consul walking left accompanied by two lictors. REV: eagle facing left stands on scepter clutching laurel wreath in right talon. That ancient technology was capable of such detail on both sides of a coin nearly defies belief. While struck perhaps 15% off-center, the flan still somehow received flowline effect very much similar to modern cartwheel luster.
