Gold $5-Classic Head Half Eagle
McCloskey 4-C (R.4), block 8, plain 4, second head. 1834 marked the year when the mint changed design for the half-eagle, as the intrinsic value of each coin made it profitable (over face value) to melt them down for bullion. 4-C can most quickly be attributed by noticing a die crack that ejects from the top of Liberty's modified portrait. Noticeable flowline texture nearly touching the rims speaks also to later dies.

Mastodon Collection. Mintage of 59,000. A remarkable smoggy camouflage pattern adorns the reverse, hiding considerable sheen when angled. A touch too much of wear, however, on the obverse probably prevented a grade of MS-60 at PCGS.
