  • Mexico - Four certified Uncirculated 8 reales
  • World Coins-Mexico
  • In recent years, the Mexican 8 Reales has become one of the most popularly collected series and there is little question as to why. Four uncirculated examples make up this handsome foursome and include three PCGS certified examples as follows: an 1842-Mo MM MS-61, an 1846-Mo MF MS-62, and an 1853-Mo GC MS-61. A lone NGC issue rounds out the lot and is an 1840-ZS OM MS-62 (ck).

  • Lot #365 - 1859 Old Reverse - Type 1 NGC MS-60
  • Hammer: $1,600
  • Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
  • The reverse die seen on this type-1 example, with larger arrowheads, was discarded in 1859 for subsequent strikings of type-2 quarter-eagles. Here is a rather delightful example given the basal and severely underutilized mint-state grade of MS-60, showing unexpectedly nice multihued golden color and no evidence of circulation. Simple bag storage apparently accounts for the trivial flaws and delicate abrasions seen throughout.
