A sweet spot for collectors, MS-62 represents an ideal grade level for which to assemble a nicer set of Indian quarter-eagles. Included here are: 1911 (dusky orange and a delicate curly pinscratch on the cheek), 1913 (delightful matte khaki-gold texture), and 1915 (a trifle glossy and showing considerable amber overtone). Well preserved surfaces are delicately swathed in steamy patina, which itself yields to rather exceptional toning on both sides, but especially the obverse. Here, fiery crimson-gold and chartreuse colors encircle a bright silver-blue oval over the Indian's portrait, while on the reverse, Arctic-blue and magenta-peach blend together. Remnants of a fingerprint beneath the bison's head may be limiting the technical grade, but the aesthetics would be difficult to beat at the gem grade level.
