US Currency-National Bank Notes
The First National Bank of Stewartsville, Missouri. Neat, precisely handwritten signatures for President Samuel Bauer and female assistant cashier Nell Snow adorn the front of this plainback. Notable is that Snow wrote "asst" beneath her signature as seems to have been the case for all of these Dekalb County notes. Paper remains utterly brilliant and not molested, while three margins -- left, bottom, right -- are large and the top margin appears . . . scissors trimmed? Ample intrigue makes this note an outstanding recipient for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.

Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
Mintage: 10,220. Overall reasonably appealing given the mint of origin, close perusal with a loupe reveals slightly glossy character and light wear above Liberty's brow, over the curls and on the highpoints of the eagle's wings. This example of the rare 1849-C sees some circulation abrasions at the lower portrait, while the reverse essentially avoids mentionable contact. The strike appears typically weak on the eagle's left (observed) leg and the feathers immediately surrounding the shield.
