  • Gold $2.50-Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
  • Each is sharp as can be but one has a tiny spot lower left of the date, while a few small black dots visit the reverse of its companion. What's would be worse -- missing on this lot? or crabs and warts? Two coin lot.

  • Lot #334 - 1853 PCGS MS-64+ CAC
  • Hammer: $1,450
  • Gold Dollars-Liberty Head
  • 1853 is a year replete with a nice variety of type coins, most of them approachable including the 1853 gold dollar. Here is an enchanting example that has all the makings of a gem, but at a much more affordable price given the "plus" grade assessed by PCGS. Opulent, velvety sheen and a delightful strike contribute to visual appeal, the only detriment (that the cataloger could find) being a few trivial hairlines sweeping across the portrait.
