In a down year for gold, like 1873, San Francisco struck only 31-thousand half-eagles, accounting for a low number of high-grade survivors. The casually worn surface here shows a few more tiny marks than typical, but ample luster brings the grade near the choice level. Attractive, subtle steely green and khaki-gold predominate.
