Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
49 graded AU-58, 27 higher at PCGS. A single reed mark on the cheek provides by far the most obvious sign of contact since the balance of either side remains unexpectedly free from marks -- remarkable for the issue. Much like the preceding 1851-O, these early New Orleans issues are not extremely rare within the AU grades but become virtually impossible to locate in UNC.

Absolutely contact-free, smooth and fully struck, Liberty's cheek ticks off the top of the want list for a Morgan dollar nearing perfection in terms of grade. Astoundingly, so common is the 1879-S that even at this lofty grade level, the population report is not worth denoting, but for an "ultimate" kind of type collector, the outrageous late-die frosted luster and ridiculously sharp strike both satisfy the most demanding collector.

Lot #307 - Native American Unsigned Squash Blossom

Circa 1960/1970, this sterling silver (tested, not marked) and turquoise squash blossom necklace features 10 blossoms set between seamed beads and an 8-stone Naja at the bottom. The design of the piece is mostly original with a slight twist on modernism. The turquoise used in the making appears to be from the Cripple Creek mine. Condition is very nice for its age with a vintage patina to the metal. Unsigned piece so tribal affiliation is unknown. Length 28”, 5.78 troy ounces.
