Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. 3 graded PR-66+ CAM, 5 higher at NGC. Razor sharp obverse definition mates up well with bold but not quite perfect reverse sharpness for this shimmering, ostentatious proof type coin that also happens to be the same date as one of the well-known keys. All by itself, the obverse likely grades at least PR-67-plus but on the reverse, one can find a brief area of planchet imperfection beneath TED, limiting the grade.
