Browning-3, die-state II with the obvious heavy die crack through the twelfth star as well as an arrowhead nicely clashed below the eight star. For an example likely conserved somewhere along the way, this is a memorably attractive coin with thick moss-grey and powdery turquoise-jade throughout the obverse, while the reverse shows a heavier blanket of ebony-grey. Both sides are rather uncommonly free from contact marks, given twenty points of circulation.

Growth Collection. There was a phase about ten years ago when MS-64 RB was considered "best" for the 1909-S VDB in terms of bang for the buck, and perhaps that holds true today. This example certainly seems on the verge of a red designation as either side gleams with 85% of the vintage brick-orange hue. Interestingly, this key cent was possibly struck off of a very slightly clipped planchet, since what appears to be a trio of tiny rim dings at first glance prove, upon closer inspection, to be almost certainly as-struck. An exceptionally detailed Lincoln cent with virtually no disturbances that would meaningfully preclude higher grade consideration.
