Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. O-101, prime dies. There is no evidence of clashed dies for this famous key to the series. Scarcity for the date can be explained by the one-day delivery of the entire mintage -- 47-thousand -- on January 10,1816 which was the day immediately preceding a major fire at the Mint. The mint was not operational again for practically the rest of the year. One might not state that the surfaces for this sharp example are entirely original as some glossy tan texture shows, interspersed with purple and neon-violet peripheral accents, but the coin suffers no damage nor distracting issues. Individual feathers within the eagle's right (observed) wing are nicely outlined while a few feathers in the left wing merge just slightly.
