Early United States mint sets are among the most difficult items to find in their original condition and packaging. There are five such issues here that includes a 1949, a 1951, a 1952, a 1954, and a 1957. Each of these are still in their original cardboard sleeves and envelopes as well. Wispy and dusty tones cling to all of the surfaces of each issue within each set lending even further evidence to these particular set’s originality. 163 graded MS-62, 20 higher at NGC. Although the final Carson City twenty is also one of the most common, hardly any meet true choice consideration although this very select example truly comes close. Liberty's cheek is not nearly as abraded as one might expect of the grade, and only faint scruffy areas show within the fields -- invisible except under specific viewing angles. Bright golden yellow hue emanates from beautifully frosted fields and unlike many double-eagles that tend to have a nicer reverse compared to the obverse, this coin appears equally attractive as viewed from either side. An exceptional strike also falls well within gem expectations.
