The Trade silver dollar is among the shortest-lived series of coins to ever be issued by the United States Mint and that creates a supply shortage that is easily noticed by any collector of the type. There are nine examples of this short-lived series in this group lot that includes the following: an 1876 (AU details, cleaned), 4x 1877 (XF), 3x 1877-S (XF details, cleaned), and an 1878-S (F). Clem Stevens Collection. VAM-5A, and as usual, being able to narrow down the VAM assures authenticity, aside from the obvious fact that NGC has certified this crucial key date silver dollar. Despite not garnering a mint-state grade, it truly appears the texture within the fields is unbroken by friction or circulation marks, but not so on the cheek where faint rub lingers. In addition, a small number of circulation marks also pepper the cheek. While not the most valuable Morgan dollar, this is a well struck example of one of the most popular dates.
