  • Lot #294 - 1852 $1 J-148 PCGS PR-65 CAC
  • Patterns-Patterns
  • Judd-148, R.6, and a very rare annular production by the U.S. mint with a proportionally large opening in the center to permit a larger overall denomination with the proper amount of gold content. The necessarily narrow remaining planchet area permits only limited design elements in addition to the 1852 date as well as USofA and the DOLLAR denomination. An exquisitely original example, this pattern features a remarkably high-relief fin around the central hold, speaking to a powerful strike but simultaneously speaking to one of the technical challenges of striking a holed coin.

  • Lot #840 - 1793 Wreath Lettered Edge PCGS F-12 (green label)
  • Hammer: $5,750
  • Large Cents-Flowing Hair
  • Robert Michaels Collection. Sheldon-11(b or c) (R.3), "vine-and-bars" being "a" of course. The cataloger could not discern "a" versus "b" due to being unable to examine the edge. An attractive leather-brown example with mahogany accents on the raised devices, the extreme edges on either side also display additional coppery exposure. Minor to modest surface granularity is textured to such a fine matte level that it scarcely distracts from the bold presentation. An outstanding example for major type or date entry purposes.

Excellent condition with a dark patina to the metal. 5.59 troy ounces.
