Gold $20-Liberty Head Double Eagle
49 graded AU-58, 27 higher at PCGS. A single reed mark on the cheek provides by far the most obvious sign of contact since the balance of either side remains unexpectedly free from marks -- remarkable for the issue. Much like the preceding 1851-O, these early New Orleans issues are not extremely rare within the AU grades but become virtually impossible to locate in UNC.

Superbly original in general and beaming with lovely pearl-grey patina that dances over frosted surfaces. Small nicks on the cheek bar upgrade, but the cataloger also draws notice to a drop of glue adhering to the bottom of the final "T" in TRUST.
