  • Lot #167 - 1899 $5 Chief Fr# 277 - PMG VF-30
  • US Currency-Silver Certificates, Large
  • Flat Creek, Missouri Collection. Satisfying color and large margins are two attractive traits for this Chief, representing a slightly better Friedberg number. Creases scarcely show on the back of the note while the front faces up as borderline XF.

  • 1853 is a year replete with a nice variety of type coins, most of them approachable including the 1853 gold dollar. Here is an enchanting example that has all the makings of a gem, but at a much more affordable price given the "plus" grade assessed by PCGS. Opulent, velvety sheen and a delightful strike contribute to visual appeal, the only detriment (that the cataloger could find) being a few trivial hairlines sweeping across the portrait.
