Mintage figures are difficult to understand, even given the initial production of 3700 pieces, since it has long been rumored that hundreds were lost after having been disposed of in Manila Bay. For the enthusiast used to the way bronze reacts with environmental effects, this is one outstanding beauty is it unquestionably glows with olive-gold and brown aspects. An above-average example boasting a noticeably better strike than average.

A pair of shipwreck survivors have been conserved and then encapsulated by NGC. First is 1860-O showing UNC details and a nice O/O mintmark. Accompanying is 1861-O also showing an O/O mintmark but somewhat rougher texture on the reverse. Two coin lot.
