  • Hammer: $15,750
  • Gold $5-Indian Head Half Eagle
  • New Orleans struck Indian gold half-eagles only in 1909 and the low emission of 34-thousand pieces created an instant rarity as this and the 1929 are the two true keys to a complete collection. Ample detailing actually appears quite bold given a couple of points of wear from circulation and the sharpness overall hands-down exceeds expectations. The yellowish surface received scarcely anything more than a few whisper-light hairlines from circulation, and extremely light, shiny friction on design highpoints. There can be now doubt that this coin was "UNC" in past marketing events (prior to the days of certification) and almost seems suitable for a second opinion, although a coin of this scarcity will get heavily scrutinized by any competent grader.
