Large Cents-Draped Bust
Sheldon-221, R.2, the very popular Redbook 100/000 corrected fraction reverse -- interesting in that five separate Sheldon die-marriages have the error 1/000 fraction that needed correcting to begin with. S-221 seems to be a winner in terms of availability, though many are found with planchet issues or other infractions. Several noticeable darker spots spatter the obverse of this PCGS example, but closer examination suggests that they haven't adversely etched into the surface, thus permitting a straight grade. Some irregular, ancient handling marks on the lower neck blend in well with the overall nut-brown patina.

Often found cut a little askew, this particularly bright example has been almost ideally centered and squared properly when viewed from either side, which means the back of the note is as appealing as the front. Signatures were stamped a little high but are as bold and deep black as can be. A "small tear" as called out by PMG only just barely requires mention because it technically touches a portion of the design (the border line) else it would escape notice. Not mentioned is a tiny dab of greenish residue positioned below the offending "tear" -- the cataloger speculates a staple may have been professionally removed from the edge at some point.
