Dimes-Draped Bust
JR-6, R.3. A small break crosses over "7" in the date, next to a radial crack that projects upward along the left side of "9", and these are joined by additional cracks, especially radial cracks in the upper left obverse. Sharpness may slightly exceed VF-25 yet most likely, NGC settled on a five point demerit due to old, modest cleaning that now shows as trivial gloss across the surface. Fortunately, old toning and dirt remain within protected areas. A small, curiously machine-like abrasion shows to the right of the final star.

64 graded AU-50, 81 higher at PCGS. Even wear takes away from what were probably slightly flashing surfaces when struck. The large date logotype is the more common of the two subvarieties for 1850, but either way, 1850 is a better early date within the series.
