Cheddars de Voirs Collection. Glittering, pale golden surfaces comprise much of the character for 1914, both sides showing a decidedly weaker strike than usual. Commissioned in 1904 by then president Teddy Roosevelt, Augustus Saint-Gaudens forever left his mark on American coinage with his legendary double eagle design. Though the original high-relief prototype posed challenges to the minting process, the here pictured standard relief edition would be adopted in 1907 and issued until 1933.
