Half Dollars-Capped Bust, Lettered Edge
Iam B. Kami Collection. 62 graded MS-65, 10 higher at PCGS. Overton-111, one of the most common die-marriages, and although Overton did not specifically call out die-states, the wavy crack underscoring the date makes it a cinch to attribute against all the other common varieties for the year. Delightful luster brightens up the appearance of this rose-gold, grey and Pacific-blue example, and the surface has managed to avoid nearly all signs of contact. A single nick on the throat and three tiny digs on the bust are all that need be accounted for in a complete description.

A fully brown color designation might seem more appropriate to many viewers as only about 15% or so of the vintage mint red remains, but one cannot know whether the coin mellowed while stored within the slab. At any rate from a technical preservation standpoint, this one rises above many, if not most Hawaii cents given freedom from the corrosion that frequently visits these rare and desirable pieces. Well struck throughout and a coin that would be a welcome addition to any astute collection.
