  • Lot #138 - 1902 $10 Blue Seal - Unionville, MO Charter #13268 - PMG VF-25/corner missing/previously mounted
  • Hammer: $1,250
  • US Currency-National Bank Notes
  • Ex: Eric P. Newman collection. Last seen in a PCGS holder with a grade of "VF20 apparent", additional notations on the PMG insert agree as well: "corner missing, previously mounted". That does not alter the rarity of this 1902 plain-back for which only four examples are reported. Unionville, a far suburb of St. Louis, was the last Missouri bank to issue large National notes, partially explaining the rarity and appeal of this very low serial number (34) ten. During the upgrade from PCGS to PMG, the important Newman pedigree was lost, and the cataloger hopes the next owner will be astute enough to have PMG restore it.

  • Lot #348 - 1885 NGC PR-65 Ultra Cameo
  • Hammer: $8,000
  • Gold Dollars-Indian Princess Head, Large Head
  • 13 graded PR-65 UCAM, 1 graded PR-65 UCAM "star", 24 higher at NGC. An incomparable series in terms of eye-appeal per square millimeter, proof gold dollars appear to have been melted at a high rate such that truly top-shelf survivors are rare today. This example boasts nearly outrageous eye-appeal that takes full advantage of intense white-gold on black contrast and pinpoint detailing. So much brilliance emits back to the viewer that no loupe is required to appreciate the exquisite care and preservation evident on both sides. And some delicate, wispy surface grazes can also be perceived without magnification. Gold coloration remains steady and consistent after almost a century and a half, with the mirrored fields glimmering so nicely beneath a good lamp.
